Insurance Underwriter

The heart of insurance is underwriting. It’s the department that actually decides who and what gets insured.

When you apply for insurance, you fill out the forms and give them your pertinent information. That set of data goes to an underwriter, who crunches the numbers and decides whether you get insurance or not.

Think of them like loan officers at a bank. Or bouncers at a club. They look you over and decide whether you belong there or not. If you’re 55 years old, with a combover, wearing a Members Only jacket...well, back behind the velvet rope.

The underwriter does the same bit, only with a policy. Using your personal data, the underwriter decides whether you're a risk the company wants to take on, and if so, what price would make sense for the insurance.
