Investment Consultant

Categories: Investing

An investment consultant is a person or firm we pay to give us investment advice.

That’s it, nothing fancy...it’s just someone who charges us money to be our investment yogi. These relationships tend to be long-term, since our yogi—er, consultant—is tasked with helping us meet our financial goals, both now and in the future. Some do this by selling us financial products, some by actually managing our investments, and some by simply charging a fee us to give us really good advice.

One thing to note: if we’re in the market for an investment consultant, we shouldn’t just hire any old schmo (or any old schmo company) off the street. We should make sure that the person or company we choose is licensed, has degrees and certifications in the field, and has a solid record, both legally and with their clients.
