Job Seeker's Allowance (JSA)

Nothing to do with Craigslist hunting late on a lonely Saturday night.

Any parent of a recent college grad can tell you about this one. Though, in this case, we're not talking about parental rent subsidies, cash handouts, or care packages of homemade cookies. Instead, we're talking about an unemployment benefit offered by the U.K.

If you are an out-of-work U.K. resident searching for a job in the country, you might qualify for a JSA. To get it, you have to meet certain requirements, and show that you are actively looking for a job. Qualify, and the government will give you cash to tide you over until you find a position. It's similar to unemployment insurance in the U.S.
