Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act

Calling all seamen (we're fighting hard to not go there): the shipbuilders, the longshoremen, the harbor builders.

The Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, or LHWCA (because that’s waaaayyyy easier to remember) is the law that says you’ll be covered: your medical bills, rehab, and compensation, if you get disabled on the job while working navigable waters or working on a ship in certain areas of the U.S.

It also pays survivors if you happen to...you know...not survive. Many companies don’t want to take on that liability themselves, so they outsource it to a third party private insurance company to make those payouts if need be.
