Loophole

Categories: Regulations

Well, originally this term was Lou Pole. Really tall, skinny guy. No body fat.

In fact, the term was reassigned to being part of a contract. The tricky part. That is, the loophole in the life insurance policy Bob bought for Harriett was that it paid off only if Bob died of natural causes. So that long-range .22 Harriett had mastered to take care of Bob’s, um, headaches...nullified the payout of the million bucks. Killing your spouse to get a contract to pay was a loophole, benefitting the insurance company.

Loopholes are common in contracts. They’re a big part of the reason lawyers get paid so damn much money.

"Loophole." Originally, the term referred to a means of escape. There was a loop or a hole in a key lock and clever prestidigitators could take advantage of it. The meaning hasn't changed much, only now it's...figurative.
