Make To Order - MTO

Categories: Company Management

Custom! See www.etsy.com for the coolest, hippie-dippie stuff.

But "make to order" is kind of a hybrid custom-ish business model where users can have direct input on the eventual product that they're ordering. Custom t-shirts. Coffee mugs with custom swear words written in Hebrew. Adult toys made specifically for old people.

Huge industry. Fills a big need. Likely high profit margins to the makers, as they're creating products of great value to the end user.

And the system applies in big business as well. Like...if Apple said to a plastic phone package stamper company that they wanted 14 million protective cases according to the attached spec (specification diagram), you can bet that the Chinese custom maker-to-order would produce it.
