A broad market rally generally means that "everything" was up. Like...if the entire market was up 2%, but oil was up 7% after that bomb went off in Riyadh, then you'd say that market breadth was low. On that kind of news it's likely that travel related stocks (hotels, cruise ships, airlines) would be down big.

Market breadth is just the kissin' cousin of market depth.
