National Quotation Bureau - NQB

Categories: Trading, Regulations

When you think of the stock market, you probably think of the NYSE and the NASDAQ. It’s like thinking about restaurants and bringing Momofuku to mind...forgetting all about the McDonalds and the Taco Bells of the world (not to mention the mystery-meat curbside stands).

That fast-food low-end section of the stock market is made up by the OTC (over the counter), or pink sheets.

The NQB is the beating heart of this part of the stock market. It was formed in 1913 (at times printing stock information on pink paper, giving the low-end market its name). After a series of buyouts and transitions over the decades, it eventually became the OTC Market Group, Inc. in the early 2010s, under which brand it still coordinates trading in the scrappy, overlooked, sometimes plain suspicious stocks that exist outside of the NYSE/NASDAQ spotlight.
