Okay, you have assets. Left side of the balance sheet. Liquid ones you can sell within a year. But you have other assets. A smelting factory. A gaggle of patents. Distribution relationships with hundreds of union delivery people. And the Teamsters.

Sometimes, accountants report "assets" or "liquid assets" in one column area, and non-liquid assets in another. So...knowing what you can sell fast, if you have to, is a valuable piece of data.

When in doubt, be liquid. Think: Evian.
