Night Depository

Categories: Banking

You realllllly had to deposit that check before midnight...or at least hope that the bank would think you deposited it before midnight. The teller who came in early in the morning would find your envelope and those of other last-minute sorts of people who all deposited checks after the bank was closed.

Now these are physical checks, and yes, this is really a scene from 1978 before ATMs became a Thing. There used to be a hole in a glass wall (bullet proof, usually), where bank customers who needed to make check deposits after bank hours would simply fill out their deposit slip form, seal it, salt it, and slip it through the hole.

And no, that’s not how banks get pregnant.
