Oil Sands

Categories: Tech

Dead dinosaur goop, all blended in with...sand.

Why is this a Thing? Well, we still want that oil. It's getting harder and harder to find on our shrinking planet. So we have to heat up the sand, melt the oil and not the sand (oil melts at way lower temps), then somehow collect it and filter it and shoot it back up from however many feet below the surface it's living, right into our Jeeps.

The process of collecting oil in this way is vastly different than just sucking it up from pools in the ground. Way more expensive. But must-do things, if we're going to still be able to kill off the last few polar bears in the next three decades.
