Underdog stories are only underdog stories if the underdog wins at the end. The OTCBB was one of those underdog stories gone wrong, where the underdog loses. Awkward, which is why we don’t hear about it.

In its heyday, the OTCBB was a humble place one could go to get quotes on over-the-counter (OTC) trades. There’s a lot of OTC trading that happens off of exchanges (like stock exchanges). Not everyone has what it takes to make it to the official exchanges, but they can still play ball in OTC markets.

OTCBB isn’t an exchange, since the actual OTC transactions happen between individuals, but it did function as a bulletin board of OTC prices.

Most OTC trading now happens via OTC Market Group’s online platforms. The OTC Market Group is the biggest OTC watercooler out there these days, making OTCBB pretty obsolete. But it’s still out there, the OTCBB. If you really love a good underdog story, you’ll go to the OTCBB before the OTCQX, OTCQT, or OTC Pink marketplaces.
