Patronage Dividend

Categories: Stocks

Zucchini is life. We know there are people out there who will disagree—there are other tasty veggies out there, we’ll admit—but as far as we’re concerned, there is Nothing. Like. Zucchini. We started growing it in the dirt out back just to save a few bucks versus buying it at the store, but as anyone who’s ever grown zucchini knows, when we plant just enough to feed our family, we end up with just enough to...feed an entire zip code.

That’s why we belong to the Verde Fervor Co-op, an agricultural cooperative made up of 25 local vegetable farms. We love the food and the camaraderie, but what we really love is when we get our “patronage dividend”: a dividend specifically given only to members of a co-op. We have to pay taxes on those dividends just like income, but we’re okay with that. We’ll use the extra money to plant more zucchini.
