Phase Out

Categories: Marketing

There will come a day after we've killed off the rest of the polar bears when there are only a handful of makers of gas-powered cars left. Everything else will be electric. Ranges will go from 200 miles today to 500 miles with power stations everywhere. At that point, we'll begin to fully phase out gas-powered cars, the same way we phased out horse-and-buggies on our streets when gas-powered cars came into being. A few gas-powered cars will always exist, at least in museums the way horse buggies do today.

The process is Darwinian and natural; products get phased out all the time. Phasing out tweaks the notion to be something that is gradual; it's not a sudden event. Things end with a whimper, not a bang.
