Press Release

Categories: Marketing

It's what you do about 12 seconds after you've jumped out of an airplane, presumably with your 'chute attached.

And it's a marketing tool companies use all the time. You've seen 'em. Microsoft announces to great fanfare, "In 3 years, we will launch something you might actually use..." And the band plays on, and that's about it.

It's also a required element of the release of quarterly financial results, and exists today as part of a Regulation FD thing. When companies disseminate financial info, or any info that can affect their stock price, they must make that info broadly known to all who can or should know. The press release is kinda the go-to vehicle to get word out there.
