Public Elevator

Categories: Marketing

Maybe you’re on an elevator this very second. In public, no doubt.

But a “public elevator” also refers to grain elevators where extra grain can be saved for a rainy day...mixed in with other producers’ grains. Thought grain producers didn’t mix their grain? Think again.

Since cooties and grains and value are all intermixed in public elevators, it’s a wonder that some futures contracts recognize them as legit underlying asset storage. For grains...not for other stuff. It’s not easy though. A public elevator holding grains that are in an underlying asset must jump through other hoops too, like being certified by the exchange that the futures contracts are sold on.

You think it’s tough jumping through hoops? Try being a public grain elevator.
