Record High

See: Record Low.

Think "weather with our brand-spanking-new global warming" fun. We have record high temperatures all the time. Record high metrics of dead polar bears. Record high sales of air conditioners. And, in some cases, record high prices of stocks.

Why do investors care about records? Well, when stocks hit extremes, they're often signal points, or inflection points, which indicate that a big breakout is coming. Like..AMZN hit a record high ages ago when it hit $100 a share, and that meant that it was ready for a big breakout. And it...did. Some 20 years later, the old lady is going strong. And of course, record highs are great news for already-owning shareholders who have made money at pretty much whatever the price was at which they bought in. So we pay attention.
