Reputational Risk

Categories: Marketing

It takes 30 years to develop a solid reputation on Wall Street, Silicon Valley, or any other close-knit industry where everyone went to the same schools. It takes one blog post, accurate or not, to ruin it. So then, when the headline came out that the CEO, "BOB BLAH FROM BOOBOO.COM HAS BAD MORALS"...it was a shame. He'd had a great career for decades. And it was just a typo. In fact, Bob had bad molars and needed a dentist appointment, but his reputation was just sunk by that high school blogger who denied spellcheck on her word processor. Not only was Bob sunk, but all the investors who'd put money with him were sunk as well.

Welcome to the real world of The Crucible that we live in.
