Retaliatory Eviction

You (the renter) complained. Or rather, you joined in the complaining. The janitors in your huge apartment building went on strike. And you marched with them.

Understandably, they weren't happy with the $27 an hour they were making, plus benefits. They did, after all, graduate high school, and often worked over 35 hours a week. So why wouldn't they strike, right? Oh, and there were Jani-bots coming. Eventually. Robot janitors they were worried about (and with good reason). So they struck. And you joined them in the picket lines. "Hell no, we won't plunge!" That was the chant...and no, rhyming was not their Thing.

Anyway, the landlord finally took matters into her own hands and fired all her full-time employee janitors, outsourcing to a contracting org who supplied them for 1/3 less. And everyone who marched in that strike? Yeah. She evicted you in retaliation for you being all marchy and strikey and stuff.

Was this legal? In some states, yes (usually the Red ones); in other states, no. Luckily, you're good with a broom, and really, who needed law school anyway? Most lawyers don't do as well as union janitors in your area, so go for it with your buddies in taking on The Man.
