Salvage Value

Categories: Accounting

Well, if you could salvage the Titanic, what would it be worth, and would they make yet another movie about it?

Salvage value is just the value you get from cleaning through the garbage, or reclaiming some asset from somewhere that nobody else really cares about or wants.

"Salve," as in: "save" in Latin. If you can save someone otherwise destined for the gas chamber, a hanging, or cliff diving, then you will have salvaged their otherwise-dead-meat lives.
