Scrap Value

Ahhh, that old factory, Bessie. She served 78 years dutifully, and then one day just...well, her heart stopped and she died. The company paid $17 million for her back in the day, when they bought her. That's like $60 million in today's dollars. But she had nothing left, other than 4 tons of steel, which were worth whatever they'd bring after hauling-away costs, and being melted into raw steel for low-end things like radial tires.

Her scrap value? Sadly, a measly $3 million. Bye, Bessie. We hardly knew ye.
