Secondary Market

The secondary market comprises stocks that are just trading on current exchanges "right now." Their angry cousin is the primary market, in which stocks or bonds lose their V-card and trade for the first time.

You hear all about the secondary market when some financial journalist reports, "Each day, the 237 billion shares traded today blah blah blah." Those 237 billion shares comprise the volume of that day's secondary market.
