Spiders - SPDR

Categories: Index Funds

SPDRs are just a family of exchange-traded funds, or ETFs, which are a kissin’ cousin of Index Funds.

Remember that an exchange-traded fund is a closed-end fund where all of the investments, more or less, are made up front, and then that fund just produces a net asset value price each day, hour, minute...as if it’s a stock comprised of the, say, 300 individual stocks on its list.

SPDR is just the brand name under which the State Street Global Advisors’ ETFs are marketed, and investors love them. Yeah, pretty darn big.

And they come with catchy names like the SPDR S&P Bank ETF, SPDR Portfolio Short Term Corporate Bond ETF, and the SPDR Radioactive Superpower Fund. Paging Peter Parker.
