Stock Quote

“Neither a put option nor a short-seller be.”

- Shakespeare (at some point, probably)

Ok ok...a stock quote is a quotation of its price. As in, you want to buy 100 shares of MSFT and the broker quotes you the price per share as $83.78. They then give you the total cost, including commission. They’re bound to deliver clean shares to you at that price if you accept right there on the phone.

And that’s part of the reason they record almost everything on the phones at brokerages. Quotes. Gotta have ‘em if you want to get into the game. Or market, anyway.
