Suggestive Selling ("Upselling")

Categories: Marketing

You bought the basic cable package with internet for $78 a month, but then your phone rings (during dinner, of course), and some sweet-talkin' guy from Delhi is on the line asking if you'd like a "special deal" on an upgrade package to add in HBO, Showtime, and Starz, all for the low special deal upsale price of an additional $32 a month.

What he doesn't tell you is that, if you accept this upsale, you'll never be able to cancel until your corpse is cold. But if they can upsell you, you'll enjoy all the wonders of 38-year-old movies and weird art films you can't understand, even if they were in English. Rock on.
