Tax-Sheltered Annuity

In general, a tax-sheltered annuity represents a way to save for retirement in a tax-efficient way. Workers contribute pre-tax money to a retirement program, and then get to receive tax-free benefits in their golden years.
There's a high-profile program that falls into this category called the 403(b) plan. It specifically targets people working in public education and other similar field...non-profits, co-op hospitals, certain religious workers. So if you make a living as a self-employed guru, you might qualify. Ask your accountant (or your spirit animal).
