Teacher Retirement System - TRS

The Teacher Retirement System (TRS) is an organization to help teachers figure out their retirement plans. Because teachers contribute to the economy by making all of our laborers smart (or not), governments kinda care about them.
In the U.S., every state has a different TRS, so YMMV depending on where you work as a teacher. They all serve the same purpose though: help teachers retire with grace...and maybe some benefits, too.
Teachers can set up TRS funds: retirement accounts just for teachers. Many TRS’s also provide disability and death benefits to teacher beneficiaries.
While this all sounds great for teachers...and while teachers are paying their share...states haven’t been keeping up. According to Pew Research, states are well over a trillion in the red on funding TRS programs, and that number is only growing.
