"How much crap can you put through a goose?" That's the frame of the word, anyway.  

Throughput just refers to the amount of whatever that was pushed through a pipe over a given time, the number of passengers who toured the Small World, and the pounds of oats Millie the Pig ate until it was crystal clear that she was having vastly too much bran. Or… how much of a product comes off the assembly line.
