In the last 4 quarters, the company produced 23 cents, then 30 cents, then 37 cents, then 40 cents a share in free cash flow. The total of those 4 trailing quarters was $1.30 a share. And then, each quarter, as the world turns in 13-week stints, the 5th quarter drops off the tally, and a new quarter's free cash flow gets calculated in the annual totals.
