Ulcers are aggravated by stress. The more you worry, the more likely you’ll start getting those searing pains in your stomach.

The appropriately named Ulcer Index attempts to quantify that situation. It's a technical indicator that tracks the level of downside risk in the market. It answers the question: how worried should you be that your investment is about to go south?

Not only does it attempt to answer this question, it tries to do so as precisely as possible. Like...with precise numbers that can be graphed and studied and plugged into algorithms.
