Vertical Market

Think of the difference between vertical and horizontal. Horizontal goes side to side. It represents something very broad...ike the horizon. Meanwhile, vertical goes up and down. It represents getting deeper into a specific area. Think: oil drilling or deep sea diving. Those situations represent going vertical.
A vertical market, then, is one that goes deep into something very specific. It represents a group of companies taking part in the same niche industry. Or it can refer to a product purposely designed for a very specific use. Think: military tanks. Cars target a broad market. They want to sell to everyone. However, tanks target a vertical market. There isn’t a broad consumer base for your tank manufacturer. You can only sell to the military.
