Voting Shares

Yes, not all shares vote. Or some shares, like super-voting shares, carry, say, 10 votes for every 1 vote attributed to normal shares. Why would some shares not vote? Well, occasionally, companies will do strategic deals with a would-be competitor; they don't want that competitor monkeying around with its board structure. Yet the competitor, if it's going to be in cahoots with the primary company, wants to get paid for its strategic value. So that competitor gets a slice of ownership in the company...but no say in how its operations are managed. Hence the non-votingness of its shares.
