Warm Calling

Warm calling—like cold calling, except warm (preferable).

A warm call is a type of sales call—a “pre” sales call, if you will. It’s a soft, warm introduction that’s not asking for much (or anything). Saving the hard sell for later is often more effective once there’s some built up rapport, even if that’s as small as recognizing the name of a company or person.

You don’t have to be a salesperson to do warm calling. Need something from an old friend (or your parents) and haven’t talked to them in forever? Awkward. Give them a warm call this week, no strings attached, and then another call (or email) and ask for the thing next week.

You’re such a nice person.
