Year Over Year - YOY
  
Year over year, or YOY (don’t try to say that aloud...you'll just sound like a fool), is comparing a period of time from this year to a past year.
For instance, you can look at YOY performance and see that your investment portfolio did better in the first quarter of this year than it did in the first quarter of last year (woot). Think of it as overlaying a past year’s data with this year’s data on a graph.
You’ll probably see YOY a lot. YOY performance for investors, YOY increases or losses in revenue for businesses, and increases in your YOY consumption of ice cream.
