Source: "California Gurls"

Speaker: Katy Perry

California girls, we're unforgettable.

Context

This line is from the song "California Gurls" by Katy Perry, from the album Teenage Dream (2010).

This bubblegum pop song went to #1 in the US and the UK, and proved to the world that Katy Perry had staying power (it was her third hit single in a row). Katy has said that the song is her response to the Jay-Z and Alicia Keys song "Empire State of Mind." She was at a party in LA, and everybody was singing along to a song all about NYC. She was like, okay, time for a new anthem about the West Coast.

Here's the video, complete with West Coast rap royalty, Snoop Dogg.

Where you've heard it

Maybe you saw Katy sing these lines on Saturday Night Live, during her Super Bowl halftime show, or in every other media outlet imaginable. You might also have seen this parody, which takes us to the world of Minecraft. Here, the line is changed to "Supernatural mobs, they're unforgettable." Oh, YouTube…

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

We tried, but we just can't think of one single thing Katy Perry has ever done that was pretentious… like, ever.
