Source: Star Wars

Speaker: Han Solo

I got a bad feeling about this.

Context

This line was first spoken by Han Solo (played by Harrison Ford) in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, directed by George Lucas (1977).

Across decades, star systems, and characters ranging from Jedi Knights to droids and even a scoundrel or two, one thing has withstood the test of time within the Star Wars universe. And no, it's not the Force, or an opening credits crawl accompanied by John Williams music. It's the line "I got a bad feeling about this" and all of its variations.

The line always means danger is imminent, like getting hauled in by a tractor beam into a space station that is "no moon", smashed into bits in a trash compactor, getting cooked by tiny bear creatures, or about to enter into very delicate trade negotiations.

But somehow our heroes, whether it's wet-behind-the-ears Luke Skywalker, his whiny father Anakin, plucky Princess Leia, or the one-liner machine Han Solo, make it out on top. However, their limbs often end up missing.

Where you've heard it

You've heard this when your friend thinks that he or she is Han Solo and is about to do something dangerous. Also, if you marathon all seven Star Wars movies in a single sitting, you'll hear it a lot.
