Speaker: Van Morrison

Hey, where did we go? Days when the rains came...

Context

This line is from the song "Brown-Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison, from the album Blowin' Your Mind! (1967).

Van Morrison—who is a person, not a band or a van coming to fix your cable—reminisces about his brown-eyed girl by asking at the beginning of his song, "Hey where did we go, days when the rains came?"

He's not actually asking her, because he goes on to answer the question himself. FYI: they were laughin' and a-runnin', skippin' and a jumpin'. This song gets everyone's hearts a thumpin'.

Where you've heard it

You may hear this when someone is reminiscing about a romantic rainy day from the past, but you will never hear this from the Wicked Witch of the West.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Although it would be nice if the singer wasn't asking questions he already has the answers to, there's nothing pretentious about recalling nostalgic memories.
