And can we just say? This quote is basically the keystone of Christianity. In short: believe in Jesus and you're going to live forever. We're talking eternity, people, and we don't mean the Calvin Klein fragrance.
Where you've heard it
Because this is the Bible quote to end all Bible quotes, you've seen it and heard it everywhere.
The words "John 3:16" are printed on the bottom of Forever 21 shopping bags (they get to be 21 eternally because of their belief in Jesus, we guess). "John 3:16" is also tucked away on the bottom of In-N-Out Burger's drink cups. What's in their soda dispenser? Holy water?
Pretentious Factor
If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.
While this verse isn't about humility, much of the Bible is, and humility is a tenet of Christianity. Taking the verse to heart is hardly pretentious.
Wearing it smack dab on your face, however? That might be a different story.
