"We don't need another hero"

We don't need another hero
We don't need to know the way home
All we want is life beyond the Thunderdome

Context

This line is from the song "We Don't Need Another Hero" by Tina Turner from the soundtrack to the motion picture Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985).

Before Furiosa, there was Aunt Entity, the sort-of villain/sort-of companion in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. She's in charge of a town full of outlaws known as Bartertown, and she was played by none other than the woman with the most expensive legs in show business, Tina Turner.

In the film, Max must do battle in Thunderdome, which is like an MMA cage fight to the death. After escaping Thunderdome, Max finds himself lost in the desert, where he is rescued by a band of raggedy desert children. Like Peter Pan (the old one played by Robin Williams in Hook) and the Lost Boys, Max and the children must return to Bartertown and go beyond Thunderdome to find the fabled "Tomorrow-morrow Land."

Why? Who knows? The movie is a mess, but the title theme is amazing, even though it seems to be about another movie entirely. Save yourself about an hour and a half and watch the music video instead.

Where you've heard it

You've heard this when you're fed up with superhero reboot movies, or you're getting to go beyond Thunderdome.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

This song is the least pretentious part of this movie, which turns Mad Max into a post-apocalyptic nanny. Didn't he listen to the song? All the children say they don't need another hero. Go away, Max.
