Exactly how steamy is this story?

Nobody takes their clothes off and nobody has a baby. The only birds and bees that you'll find in Gaines's novel are the ones that might be flying around near Marshall Plantation. Even actual birds and actual bees never get mentioned. Still, we've got to slap a PG-13 on this one because there are recurring images of violence and a pretty painful dose of ignorant and racist language that might make getting through this a little uncomfortable for you. The really scary thing, though, is that there are people who actually sound like that and think that way.
