The Incredible Hulk/Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo)’s Timeline and Summary

  • "Somebody want to deal with that bunker?" Hulk answers Black Widow's request by smashing the Hydra installation to bits in the Avengers' assault on Baron von Strucker's research base.
  • Hulk continues to smash (it's what Hulk does) until Black Widow shows up to calm him down by touching his hand. He de-Hulk-inates (we think that's the verb) and changes back to Bruce Banner.
  • Back on the Avengers' jet, Bruce Banner refuses to be cheered up by the Black Widow. He's too bummed out about all the damage he caused while he was the Hulk.
  • Back in Avenger's HQ, Banner teams up with Tony Stark to study Loki's scepter. Turns out that it contains some kind of alien super-brain. Bonus.
  • Stark asks Banner to help him upload this new intelligence to his Iron Legion bots in order to create a force sophisticated enough to protect the Earth once and for all. After some hemming and hawing (but no Hulking), Banner agrees to pitch in.
  • Before they can crack the code (so to speak), it's party time. Bruce and Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff) flirt heavily, and Captain America encourages Bruce to go for it.
  • After Ultron crashes the Avengers' victory party, Banner accompanies them to the African coast, where they try to bust up Ultron's purchase of vibranium from a shady arms dealer.
  • Bruce stays behind in human form, but Wanda Maximoff finds him and puts a hex on his brain.
  • Bad news: Banner goes into Hulk-mode, only now the rage effect is multiplied by his hallucinations. He starts tearing downtown Johannesburg apart.
  • Iron Man tries to stop him, with the help of "Veronica" (a remote-controlled defense system) and a giant "Hulkbuster" suit. Much destruction ensues.
  • Eventually, Iron Man smashes Hulk through an entire skyscraper. That seems to do the trick.
  • Hulk wakes up—as Bruce Banner—back on the Avengers Quinjet.
  • He arrives with the team at Hawkeye's family safehome in the country.
  • Bruce Banner is hopping out of the shower when he runs into Natasha (Black Widow).
  • Bruce is super-bummed that the whole world has now seen that the Hulk is capable of so much rage and destruction. He's thinking about running away.
  • When Black Widow offers to go with him, Bruce refuses, reminding her that he can never have a peaceful life, or even kids. Sniff.
  • After the team regroups and steals back the android cradle from Ultron, Bruce is waiting with Tony Stark to look it over back at Avengers' HQ. It turns out that Tony has relocated J.A.R.V.I.S., hiding on the internet, and now he wants Bruce's help to upload J.A.R.V.I.S. into the android, instead of Ultron. Bruce is, to say the least, skeptical.
  • Even still, he goes along with Tony—that is, until Captain America and his new friends the Maximoff twins show up to shut things down.
  • Bruce is still peeved about Wanda putting a mind melt on him, so while Iron Man takes on Captain America, he puts Wanda in a choke hold—until she zaps out of it.
  • Thor interrupts the mini-fight and brings Ultron's android to life himself.
  • After a few tense moments, the group accepts the new J.A.R.V.I.S. android and goes after Ultron. Bruce's job is to bust Black Widow out of jail, which he does pretty handily using a massive laser gun. Then he tells her that they should sit the fight out. He doesn't want to Hulk out and hurt innocent civilians, and she's had a tough day—what with being Ultron's prisoner and all.
  • Bruce and Black Widow see that Ultron is launching Sokovia into the air, but Bruce is still not up for fighting back. Black Widow gives him a big ol' smooch when she hears this—then kicks him off a ledge. Bye-bye Brucie. Hello Hulk.
  • The green machine launches himself into the air—wearing Black Widow like a backpack—before landing on the still-rising city. It's bot-smashing time.
  • True to form, Hulk smash. Eventually, he meets up with his Avenger pals by the vibranium core. He works with his team to stop Ultron's Iron Legion bots from activating the core and sending Sokovia crashing back into Earth.
  • Once Hulk has smashed all there is to smash, Black Widow shows up to calm him back down into Bruce Banner mode.
  • Just before she can, Ultron pops up in a stolen jet and peppers Hulk with machine gun fire. Hulk uses his body to shield Black Widow from harm, drops her off at the Helicarrier, then takes off after Ultron.
  • Hulk ejects Ultron out the captain's chair—with extreme prejudice—and sends the bad bot crashing back into Sokovia island.
  • Hulk is kicking back and admiring the view from Ultron's plane when he gets a call from Black Widow. The Sokovians are safe, and so is the rest of Earth, so it's time to come home. Black Widow asks Hulk to turn off the cloaking device so that they can locate his plane, but Hulk ends the transmission.
  • Maybe his huge green thumbs just hit the wrong button?
  • Nah—judging from the way Hulk stares moodily out the plane window, it looks like he needs some alone time.
