Character Role Analysis

Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow and Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk

Black Widow and The Incredible Hulk—who woulda thunk it? The two seem like a true odd couple: she's a sophisticated, Russian assassin, and he's a thousand pounds of solid green rage muscle. As Natasha and Bruce, though, they have a real connection. This starts off as heavy flirting at the Avengers' victory party, with Natasha playing that old game of talking to Bruce about "another guy":

Black Widow: He's also a huge dork. Chicks dig that. So what do you think? Should I fight this? Or run with it?
Bruce Banner: Run with it…right?

Smooth, Bruce, real smooth. Despite Dr. Banner's dorkitude, the pair's romance smolders throughout the film. Though it never fully blossoms into a relationship status update, their connection is highlighted by the fact that Black Widow is the only one who can calm Hulk back down into Bruce-mode. That's real love right there.
