Doc (Christopher Lloyd)’s Timeline and Summary

Doc (Christopher Lloyd)’s Timeline and Summary

  • Doc has Marty meet him at the Twin Pines Mall parking lot, where he (dramatically) reveals his latest invention: a time machine made out of a DeLorean. His plan is to go a few decades into the future… but that plan is thwarted when he is instead filled with lead by some guys who are none too pleased that he cheated them out of their store of plutonium.
  • The next time we see Doc he's quite a bit younger. It's 1955, and he's visited by some strange-looking kid wearing a life preserver who claims to be from the future. It takes some convincing, but he finally buys the story.
  • He and Marty engineer a plan (hopefully a better one, this time) to get the latter back to 1985. But first, he has to help him get his parents back together, so he can be born. He goes with Marty to the school, and the two of them come up with the idea to have Marty convince George to ask Lorraine to the Enchantment Under the Seadance.
  • Doc spends the next week preparing his "weather experiment." He builds an intricate scale model showing how the whole thing will go down, which is so impressive it makes us wonder whether he abandoned some kind of architectural career earlier in his life.
  • On the night of the dance, Doc makes final arrangements outside the clock tower. He has to do some improvising when things go awry, but it all comes together in the end, and he successfully sends Marty back to 1985. He celebrates by doing a little dance in the street, because why not?
  • Back in 1985, Doc is shot once again by the Libyan nationalists… but he was wise enough to read the note of warning that Marty left for him years ago, so his bulletproof vest saves him from his prior fate.
  • After dropping Marty off at his house, Doc peels away, presumably headed to the future. He isn't gone long though, swinging back around the next morning (considerate of him to give Marty a little breather) to tell Marty and Jennifer that they've got to come with him to take care of some problem with their kids.
