Character Analysis
The other so-called "gardenia girls" are, like Marjorie, the dazzling leaders of young society. They each have their own particular schtick – Genevieve is famous for making the rounds of parties, dances, and other to-dos at all of the major East Coast colleges; Roberta's a fabulous dancer; and Martha is known for her keen wit and verve (even though she's not very pretty). These girls barely even make an appearance in the story, but they're frequently mentioned, and give us some understanding of the social world Marjorie inhabits.
