Character Role Analysis

Crispin and Lord Furnival

You know how Luke Skywalker is always trying to prove he's not like Darth Vader? Something similar goes on here once Crispin discovers he's Lord Furnival's son. Though they never meet, Crispin sees himself in opposition to Lord Furnival—the man who makes life in Stromford so difficult, and the man in whose name many injustices are done. When Crispin sees a painting of Lord Furnival, he realizes they look very much alike, but rejects the idea that they are alike on the inside. When he leaves the cross that identifies him as Lord Furnival's son, his rejection of his father is complete.
