• Cerdic acts as caretaker and confidant to little Merlin in South Wales. He tells him to act like a ring-dove until he's strong enough to be a falcon.
• Cerdic also advises Merlin to keep all that second sight stuff to himself.
• Cerdic teases 12-year-old Merlin about all the time he spends wandering by himself—he must have a girlfriend.
• Cerdic attends Merlin on the trip to Segontium and tries to keep him out of the mineshaft.
• Cerdic is murdered as punishment—and to cover up the king's death. His body is burned by Merlin.
