Dancing on the Edge Chapter 7 Summary

  • Gigi freaks out about Miracle's clothes and tells her she has a green aura when she wears Dane's bathrobe. Apparently, green auras are no good. So Gigi tells Miracle she has to wear purple all the time—the color of the highest spiritual order—until her aura changes back.
  • Miracle decides to obey Gigi and takes off the bathrobe, even though it's really uncomfortable—she feels like she's letting go of a part of herself.
  • Things begin to change for the better after she does this, though. Gigi and Granddaddy Opal are actually getting along for once, and Miracle gets to take over the paper route; she feels like she's at peace for the first time since Dane melted.
  • One day, Gigi and Granddaddy Opal have a spat about the porch floor being so high that Gigi needs a seatbelt to sit in a chair. From this exchange, he gets the idea to paint customized seatbelts for people. Lots of people become his customers and think it's a great business.
  • The one thing that doesn't change, though, is how people react toward Miracle. She's made an effort to change herself, but people still think she's weird—they may like her grandfather, but they don't exactly like her.
  • Granddaddy Opal says she's just different and doesn't want to advertise her identity like the people he paints seatbelts for. He tells her that if he made her one, it would be blank.
