The Marquise de Merteuil Timeline and Summary

The Marquise tells Valmont that he has to help her take revenge on Gercourt by seducing his young fiancée Cécile.
She befriends Cécile, gains her trust, and turns her against Gercourt.
After Cécile confesses her infatuation with Danceny to a priest and stops flirting with him, the Marquise commands Valmont to push Danceny into romancing Cécile.
To interfere even more, the Marquise tells Madame de Volanges about her daughter's romance with Danceny.
She seduces and ruins a prospective lover named Prévan because he dared announce that he planned to seduce her. She draws him in then has him arrested for attempted rape.
She counsels Cécile to be Valmont's regular lover and helps turn her into a girl with the skills of a courtesan.
Unable to tolerate Valmont's attentions to Madame de Tourvel, she demands that he leave her if he has any hopes of getting into the Marquise's bedroom.
After she's destroyed Madame de Tourvel, she tells Danceny about Valmont's relations with Cécile.
Danceny challenges Valmont to a duel, and ends up killing him.
While he's dying, Valmont turns over all the letters he's had from the Marquises, revealing all her evil plots and showing everyone who she really is: definitely not the person she's presented her self to be.
With her reputation totally ruined, she runs off to Holland with her jewels and money, leaving her family to pay off her debts.
A bout of smallpox ruins her looks; she's now as horrible on the outside as she's always been on the inside.
