Dark Places Steaminess Rating

Exactly how steamy is this story?

R

While the steaminess rating doesn't come close to the goriness rating, which is off the charts, it shouldn't come as any surprise that Gillian Flynn is about as subtle with sex as she is with violence. That is, not subtle in the least. The fact that all the sex involves a fifteen-year-old boy makes everything even more shocking. Ben and Diondra have sex in violent, abusive ways. It's not quite fifty shades of grey, but it's still like twenty-seven or twenty-eight shades of grey.

Also, Ben is accused of molesting a young girl, and, although her story is a lie, the details are parsed out in a graphic manner. And Ben does have contact with young Krissi. It's only mildly sexual, but Gillian Flynn is more than happy to describe everything that happens south of the border for us.
