More serpent imagery from Cam—surprise, surprise. This scene brings full circle how snakelike Cam really is: he's trying to charm Luce with trinkets, and while the idea of giving someone you like a gift is a nice gesture, the snake imagery is too much for us. #overit

We had to talk about the shadows eventually, those dripping, whispering cretins that follow Luce around and wreak havoc wherever they go. They just seem extra oppressive in this scene, mingling with the smoke from the fire—which makes us wonder if they have the capacity to start fires, because that's totally something they would do, and that would explain a lot.

A complete juxtaposition against the shadows that were present only moments before, this glowing purple radiance saves Todd and Luce from the burning library. Luce probably thinks of Daniel because…maybe it was Daniel? Dun dun dun. Too bad Daniel couldn't be bothered to actually save Todd, but whatever, we quibble.

Cam looked at Penn like he was trying to figure out where she'd come from all of a sudden. He had a way of making Luce feel like a better, cooler version of herself. And she had a way of crossing his path right after Daniel had made her feel exactly the opposite. (10.28)
Like a knight in shining armor, Cam swoops in to save the day. He does this quite a lot, and this perfect example happens right after Daniel insulting Luce for no reason and left with Roland. No wonder Luce is so indecisive about boys.
